PSYCHSOC PRESENTS:
EY CASE COMP
Wednesday, 31st July (Term 2, Week 10) 2024
TIME: 2:00-5:00pm
LOCATION: Michael Crouch Innovation Centre (UNSW Kensington Campus)
WHAT IS IT?
UNSW PsychSoc has partnered with Ernst & Young’s People Advisory Services to deliver an amazing opportunity for students to be involved in our 2024 Case Competition. As psychology tends to be a degree which many pursue towards a career in clinical-based and forensic-based fields, the team at PsychSoc has designed this event to advocate the various career pathways available to psychology students, particularly in the organisational field. Additionally, students would also be provided with the opportunities to refine skills linked to problem-solving and employability.
In a 4-person team format, the 2024 Case competition will require students to develop a solution for a case study related to the fields of Human Resources (HR) and Human Consulting (HC). Teams will be required to submit slides related to their inventive solution, where five successful teams will then present their solutions to a judging panel of EY representatives.
KEY SKILLS
Participating in the 2024 Case Competition will enhance students’ skills related, but not limited, to consulting, problem-solving, data analysis, and client presentation. Throughout the case period, students will gain a better understanding towards the corporate world surrounding HR and HC. In addition, other abilities including teamwork, effective communication and time management will be strengthened through interactions within teams.

TESTIMONIALS

“The PsychSoc x EY Case Competition last year offered my team and I the opportunity to tackle internal organisational issues that were beyond the traditional problems of driving growth within the company or industry. It required us to develop an internal human relations framework that would promote positive workplace culture, whilst also building a sustainable business model to support clients. The case was quite refreshing as it required us to learn more about how to increase operational effectiveness and develop organisational culture, which allowed us to develop a strategy that benefits both the organisation and their clients. The best bit of the case competition was pitching to EY PAS, as they engaged with our pitch through thought provoking QnA questions and provided very valuable presentation feedback. I would highly recommend the PsychSoc case competition to anyone who is interested in developing the crucial research skills and presentation skills that are vital to developing a good pitch!”

“I hadn’t entered a case comp before, but as soon as I heard that PsychSoc was holding their first case comp, I was immediately keen (I’ve been patiently waiting for them to finally hold one)! EY were very generous with their time and resources, gave us a solid brief and held interactive workshops that equipped us with the skills we needed. In the end, my team was fortunate enough to win the comp, and the representatives from EY gave constructive feedback on our performance. Of course, I can’t forget the freebies we received as well! Definitely an unforgettable experience for my friends and I, and I developed a love for case comps right after.”

“Doing the EY x PsychSoc case competition last year was truly an eye-opening experience into how diverse psychology could be! Having never done a case comp, it was a very different learning experience but in a fun and rewarding way. It has been one of the most unique ways I’ve challenged myself by applying problem solving skills in order to present a solution that simulated problems encountered in the real world. It was a peek into what organisational psychology and human consulting truly is like and inspired me to look to that as a very viable career path!”

“EY x PsychSoc Case Competition was an exciting experience that allowed me to enhance my consulting skills to solve and design a solution to a unique case study centred around human resources and human consulting. It was incredibly rewarding to see all the hard work and efforts that my team (shout out to Nelson, Jacky and Annemarie) put in as we were rewarded as the winning team. Additionally, the supportive feedback we received from the judges and the fortunate opportunity to network with EY’s industry-experienced representatives was an invaluable experience.”
